In April, 2024, Norah and I hiked “Peek-a-Boo” and “Spooky”, a couple slot canyons off of dusty “Hole in the Wall” road in southern Utah. At the trailhead for these hikes, there is a metal frame whose purpose is similar to the carry-on luggage tester at airport counters. Although my skinny self fit through easily, I became semi-stuck between the rock walls in a few spots. The routes through the canyons are one-directional to avoid jam ups. Thus, there was no option but to push my body forward. Even turning sideways, I scraped clothing and skin. We eventually emerged into sunlight and freedom. Given that I was hosting a Passover Seder later that month, I subsequently realized that I could view escaping those narrow passageways in metaphoric terms.
